Why Is The Pomegranate The Fruit Of Death?
The concept of pomegranate being the fruit of death stems from Greek mythology, where it was believed that Persephone, the goddess of spring, was kidnapped by Hades, the god of the underworld, and taken to his realm. While in the underworld, Persephone consumed six pomegranate seeds, which bound her to the underworld for six months of every year. During this time, the world would experience winter, and when Persephone returned to the surface, spring would begin. Thus, pomegranate became associated with death and the underworld.
