How Do I Know If My Grill Is Hot Enough?
To know if your grill is hot enough, you can use the 3 second rule. Hold your hand about 3 inches above the grill grate and count how long you can keep it there before it becomes uncomfortable and you need to move it away. If you can only keep it there for 1-2 seconds, the temperature is high (450-550°F) and suitable for searing and cooking thick cuts of meat. If you can keep it there for 3-4 seconds, the temperature is medium-high (350-450°F) and suitable for grilling burgers and vegetables. And if you can keep it there for 5-6 seconds, the temperature is medium (300-350°F) and suitable for cooking delicate foods like fish and chicken.
