Do I Need To Mulch Potted Tomatoes?
Mulching potted tomatoes is highly recommended as it helps in retaining soil moisture, suppresses weeds, and regulates soil temperature. Mulching also adds organic matter to the soil as it decomposes and improves soil structure. Use organic materials such as straw, hay, grass clippings, or shredded leaves for mulching, and spread a layer of 2-3 inches over the soil surface. However, the mulch should be kept away from the stem of the tomato plant to avoid the risk of fungal diseases.
