What Is The Origin Of Duchess Potatoes?
Duchess Potatoes originated in France in the 18th century, during the reign of Louis XVI and his bride, Marie Antoinette. The dish was originally called “Pommes de Terre Duchess” and was created by Antoine-Augustin Parmentier, a French military chemist and agronomist who championed the use of potatoes as a staple food. The recipe later spread throughout Europe and eventually became a classic side dish in many cuisines around the world.
