Why Are They Called Linzer Cookies?
Linzer cookies are named after the Austrian city of Linz, where they originated in the 18th century. They are made with a shortbread-like dough that contains ground nuts, typically almonds, and are sandwiched together with a layer of fruit jam. The top cookie is traditionally dusted with powdered sugar and has a small cut-out in the center, revealing the jam underneath. These delicious cookies have since become popular around the world and are enjoyed during the holiday season.
