How Do You Make Vanilla Bean Extract?
Vanilla bean extract can be made by cutting 3-4 vanilla beans lengthwise and placing them in a jar with 1 cup of vodka. Close the jar and shake it well. Store the jar in a cool, dark place for at least 2 months, shaking it occasionally. The longer you leave the beans in the vodka, the stronger the flavor will be. After the extract has reached your desired strength, strain it through a cheesecloth and discard the beans. Store the vanilla extract in a dark bottle or jar in a cool, dry place.
