Why Are Mangosteens Illegal?
Mangosteens are not illegal in all countries; however, in some countries like the United States, they are banned due to concerns regarding the risk of introducing the Asian fruit fly, which could harm domestic fruit industries. Additionally, they are highly perishable and difficult to transport, which makes it challenging to import them into countries with strict food safety regulations. Despite being called the “Queen of Fruits,” mangosteens remain largely unavailable in most parts of the world.
