What Are Elephant Ears Made Of?
Elephant ears, also known as African mask or Alocasia, are made of large flat leaves that are made up of a central stalk called a petiole and a blade-shaped lamina. The lamina is the actual leaf of the plant and is composed of a network of veins that transport water throughout the leaf. The leaves are usually green in color and have a glossy surface and can grow to be several feet in length. The plant also has a tuberous root system that helps it store water and nutrients for times of drought.
