Why Is It Called Cassata Cake?
Cassata cake is believed to have originated in Sicily, Italy. The cake is named after the traditional Sicilian dessert, “cassata” which is made from ricotta cheese, sponge cake, and candied fruit. The cake was created using similar ingredients and techniques to the traditional dessert and therefore, was named after it. The word “cassata” may have originated from the Arabic word “qas’ah” which means “bowl” or “large vessel” which is an apt description of the shape of the cake.
