How Do You Prepare Fresh Collard Greens?
To prepare fresh collard greens, first remove the leaves from the stems and discard the tough stems. Wash the leaves thoroughly and chop them into bite-sized pieces. In a large pot, cook chopped bacon until crispy, then remove the bacon from the pot and set it aside. Add chopped onions to the bacon fat and cook until softened. Add the collard greens to the pot along with chicken broth, salt, pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Cover and simmer for around 45 minutes, or until the collards are tender. Stir in the cooked bacon before serving.
