Why Is Chocolate And Mint Called Grasshopper?
There are a few theories as to why chocolate and mint are called grasshopper. One theory suggests that the green color of the mint resembles the green color of a grasshopper. Another theory suggests that the name comes from a popular after-dinner drink in the 1950s and 60s called the grasshopper, which contained crème de menthe and crème de cacao, two key ingredients in chocolate and mint desserts. Regardless of the origin, the name has stuck and is now commonly used to refer to desserts and drinks that combine chocolate and mint flavors.
