How Is Acid Wash Denim Made?
Acid wash denim is made by a bleaching process with pumice stones and chlorine bleach. The pumice stones are first soaked in chlorine bleach and then put into a washing machine with the denim. The stones bounce around in the wash cycle, rubbing against the denim and creating an irregular, faded pattern. This process is repeated until the desired level of acid wash effect is achieved. Afterward, the denim goes through another washing cycle with a neutralizer to stop the bleaching process and prevent any further damage to the fabric.
