Why Do They Call Sisters Nuns?
Sisters and nuns are both women who belong to religious orders within the Catholic Church. However, nuns are women who have taken solemn vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience and live in monasteries or convents, devoting their lives to prayer and contemplation. On the other hand, sisters are members of religious orders who also take vows but are involved in active ministry and outreach to the community. The term “nun” is often used colloquially to refer to all Catholic women religious, including sisters, but technically, they are not interchangeable terms.
