Who First Invented Hot Chocolate?
The origins of hot chocolate can be traced back to the ancient Mayan and Aztec civilizations in Mexico, who drank a bitter beverage made of ground cacao beans mixed with spices and water. However, it was not until the 16th century that hot chocolate was introduced to Europe, where it was sweetened with sugar and flavored with vanilla and other spices. The credit of inventing hot chocolate in its modern form is thus difficult to attribute to one individual or culture.
