Are Yams And Sweet Potatoes The Same?
Yams and sweet potatoes are often confused to be the same thing. However, they are two different vegetables. Yams are native to Africa and Asia, and are usually larger and have a rough and scaly skin. On the other hand, sweet potatoes are native to Central and South America, and have a smoother skin and come in a range of colors, including orange, yellow, and white. In most grocery stores in the United States, the sweet potatoes that are labeled as “yams” are actually just a different variety of sweet potato.
