Why Is It Called Long Island Drink?
The Long Island Drink is named after the Long Island region in New York where it originated. It was created in the 1970s by bartender Robert “Rosebud” Butt at the Oak Beach Inn in Hampton Bays, New York. Initially, it was called a “Long Island Iced Tea” due to its color and similarity to the non-alcoholic beverage. Over time, it became commonly referred to as simply the “Long Island” or “LI” drink.
